Death of a Server
In a hunt to quiet down the DL360p, fan info g and various other commands in the iLO hacked firmware v2.77.
I was able to get it down from a normal of about 45% to 20-25% which was quite a difference in sound levels.
Over the course of a couple months I figured out that the RAID controller temperature the last factor keeping fan speeds up on the DL360p. I had a small 40mm 12v fan, the hunt for 12v power was on…
Using bench power and 40mm fan I was able to give RAID controller heatsink a breeze and quickly dropping fan speeds to about 5-10% A huge win…unfortunately HP server does not like you poking around. At All.
Such a whiny little bitch. Do not try and grab 12v from the hard drive back plane power connector. Or any other part of the system other than maybe say a SATA power port or USB port…
